A splendidly large and cavernous enclosure of the international terminal with scallops of glazing for natural light and views, on layover from the India to SFO flight...painted with adobe ideas on ipad...

On the long flight back from Chennai, India to San Francisco, I had the luxury of time to relax and dream and paint this version of a green house and landscape, perhaps an unconscious yearning to return back to California and beautiful scenes and family...

India Gate, a closer view

The main path is known as the Rajpath and connects the India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan.  Following India's independence, the India Gate became the site of the Indain Army's, Tomb of the Unknown soldier, known as Amar Jawan Jyoti ("the flame of the immortal soldier").

India Gate, the monumental arch by Edwin Lutyens

So much to say and not to say about this monument, especially because I had forgotten my architectural history lessons on Lutyens and the great civic works...but it was site to behold and well within the realm of dreamed and forgotten but alive and flourishing architecture...

The map of India, places that I visited in the week of the journey...

First stop was New Delhi, then a quick flight to Mumbai, a jump on Indigo airlines (cool) down to Chennai (formerly Madras) and finally 30 minute flight to Bangalore for the last leg of research, before jetting to Dubai and back to California...
