Sometimes I think about Robert Byron touring through regions of the Middle East in search of unique towers and monuments, and wonder about Bruce Chatwin venturing through the southern tip of South America and falling in love with Patagonia...Douglas Wittnebel...

Wailoa Mission House painting
Had no idea at the time of my visit in Hanalei, but have later learned that this large roofed house was the 1837 home of the early Christian missionaries, Abner and Lucy Wilcox. Now a landmark, and restored in 1921 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reflects the southern roots of its architect, the Reverend William Alexander of Kentucky. Imagine that, southern roots of architecture design on the island of Kauai...
